![]() The good news is, you’ll always be able to tell when you’re firing as your shots are a different colour. Adding to that, it also makes it harder for you to spot the enemy. More often than not, these lights make it extremely difficult to tell if you’re walking into enemy fire or not. To make the game look more “techie” the designers put in a variety of flashing lights in the background. What also doesn’t work in your favour is the layout of the level. They are plentiful and some move quite quickly. The enemies are moderately difficult, but what makes them so tough are the numbers. The game is, once again, divided into various stages with bonus levels popping up when you don’t need them. To put it simply, it’s a twin-stick shooter that can be played on the TV or gamepad. It also follows a few simple recipe: Kill all enemies in waves, collect coins, use coins to upgrade before the next wave, and so on and so forth. If you’ve played Titan Attacks!, you’ll instantly get a sense of familiarity, as the game shares the same studio: Puppy Games. You fight in an arena type thing, and if you destroy all the bots, you win the game. Somewhere along the line robots have wiped out the human race and you’re the sole survivor. There’s not much of a story, so I can’t really elaborate on that, but what I can say is that you’re a robot who’s tasked with avenging humanity. Ultratron is one of the newer games, but I’m not sure this one is a worthy entry. Many arcade classics are returning to Nintendo’s consoles and a few new ones are as well. The main appeal, in my mind, is that they’re easy to play and short enough for you to get a gaming fix without wasting the day away. I give Ultratron a 6 out of 10.Arcade games are fantastically addictive and fun to play on any day of the week. If you are a fan of these arcade style shooters, I strongly encourage you to wait for a price drop before checking this out, as right now it’s too pricey to recommend. On one hand, you have a simple concept that anyone can pick up and play, and the Co-Op is addicting! But on the other, you have a game that takes a while to get going and may not appeal to those hoping for their $9.99 to offer a lot of content. In conclusion, Ultratron is a rather strange game. ![]() Still, despite how fun this game can be with a friend, it feels kinda bland when playing alone, with each session having a slow start to it that only picks up once you grind for upgrades long enough, making it feel rather boring for quite a while until the action gets going, despite the ability to continue at a later stage in the game It’s a game that while fun, challenging and chaotic, takes way too long to engage the player, and considering how it’s meant as a high score experience to be replayed over and over again to get a better spot on the leaderboards, that’s not a good thing, especially considering its standard $9.99 price tag on the Wii U eShop. ![]() There’s even two player Co-Op if you want a buddy to join you for the action, along with online leaderboards which are nice touchies that help add to the replay value! Similar to Titan Attacks, you also can save in-game currency to buy powerups at the shop in-between each level, which can make the difference in surviving the harsh conditions of later levels in the game and help to get you a high score. Nothing mind-blowing, but thankfully it works and is a massive improvement over the prior effort.īeing a twin-stick shooter, the core gameplay is incredibly simple, with you moving with the left stick while shooting with the right. With a much better soundtrack compared to Titan Attacks, we have a techno-themed OST with a few catchy songs to help keep you going. With an art style very similar to that of Titan Attacks (The previous game that was made by PG which Curve published), the game looks fine, although the game loves to constantly use special effects whether you may like them or not, from a distorted screen to all sorts of things flying by that will likely distract you from the main objective. With yet another 2D arcade-style shooter developed by Puppygames, you take control of a robot tasked with seeking vengeance for the fall of mankind, as you go around and destroy as many evil robots as possible! A rather simple story, like all arcade-style games. Originally posted October 3rd 2015 on the Seafoam Gaming forums
